Common Grace video August 17, 2009

Common Grace arranges partnerships between local churches and public elementary schools. A team of trained volunteers from a church goes to a campus – some before school – some at lunchtime – and some during the after school program.

1 volunteer spends 1 hour with 1 kid once each week just talking, reading and playing together. We do not interfere with the separation of Church and State by any religious instruction or behavior in the public school. We simply go to show the kids that somebody really cares about them.

So, the school chooses kids who need another adult friend in their lives. The partner church chooses and trains “Aunties” and “Uncles” to go spend time with these kids—giving them individual, undivided attention and genuine, personal encouragement.

Everybody knows the benefits of a good mentor! Common Grace exists to match churches with schools; caring adults with lonely kids.

Church Group Reaches Out To 10 Schools. Common Grace has a mission to be the catalyst to help public elementary schools partner with local churches to create caring mentorships for lonely and needy children...

The Harold K. L. Castle Foundation recently awarded an $18,000 grant to Common Grace for strengthening partnerships between local churches and Windward Oahu public schools by providing caring mentors for at-risk children.

Jay was honored as one of Hawaii's Outstanding Advocates for Children and Youth at Washington Place on October 29, 2009.
